Gena Keller

Director

Gena Keller has served students in public education for over 40 years. She has been a teacher for children with special needs and for students in alternative settings. Gena also worked as a home-school coordinator, school counselor, administrator at the elementary, middle and high school level, public relations officer, central office assistant superintendent and was the superintendent of Fluvanna County Public Schools for 7 years. While in Fluvanna, Gena worked with her team of educators and the community to build supports for underserved students resulting in a 0% drop out rate for Black males for several years and a 14% increase in minority enrollment in rigorous courses. Gena received the National Superintendent Certification from AASA and was named Region V Superintendent of the Year for 2017. She recently retired from her position as Assistant Superintendent for Learning at the Virginia Department of Education after working alongside Dr. Steven Staples, Dr. Steve Constantino and the current superintendent, Dr. James Lane. Gena's role as Director for the Commonwealth Learning Partnership positions her to assure professional learning opportunities that will upskill Virginia's educators as they provide relevant and modern educational experiences for all Virginia's students.

Gena and her husband, Larry Keller, reside in Fluvanna County. They have six children and five grandchildren.
